Excuse the old picture ... Maybe one day I'll get around to finding something newer.

My involvement with the NetBSD Project

Although I dinked around with NetBSD 0.8, I didn't really became involved with NetBSD until NetBSD 0.9 was released.

During the period between NetBSD 0.9 and NetBSD 1.0, I started hacking on NetBSD/hp300. At the time, I worked for Oregon State University's Department of Computer Science, as a systems administrator. The department had many HP 9000/300-series systems lying about. Several of them now run NetBSD in a production environment as user and network services systems.

In my spare time I hack on several NetBSD ports, including NetBSD/hp300, NetBSD/sparc, NetBSD/sun3, and NetBSD/mvme68k. I've dinked with porting NetBSD to the Integrated Solutions VME-68020 platforms, but haven't really put a serious effort into it (yet). I'm also supposed to be helping my good friend Herb Peyerl port NetBSD to the Apollo Domain-series workstations (an obscene combination of Motorola m68k CPU and ISA bus), but I've been pretty busy with other stuff. I guess this means that I owe Herb a pint.

I did the hp300 release for NetBSD 1.0, and am currently the maintainer of NetBSD/hp300. On December 10, 1995, I became a member of the NetBSD core group. I am also one of the people who maintains this WWW server.

... but in real life ...

In real life, I work for NASA Ames Research Center's Numerical Aerodynamic Simulation Facility, where I am a member of the Network Research Group, who's primary focus is the National Research and Education Network (NREN), a high-speed, long-haul network connecting several NASA centers. I do a fair amount of NetBSD work here, as well, primarily with NetBSD/i386, NetBSD/sparc, and NetBSD/alpha. In our Data Communications Lab, I have a small cluster of NetBSD systems, including SPARCstations (SS1s, SS1+s, and an SS10), a DEC 3000/400 (Alpha), and a few i486 EISA systems.
